Catching up with Asimina (President of the YTP)
My name is Asimina Vanderwert, and I have recently been nominated as President for the Young Transport Professionals (YTP). I have been a member of the YTP for three years now, and a part of the committee for just over one year as Events Coordinator and now President. Thanks to all of our members for getting their nominations in and a big thank you to our departing Committee – we’ve certainly got some big shoes to fill!
We’re working in an incredibly exciting time in Victoria – we’re experiencing one of the biggest infrastructure booms (if not the biggest) we’ll see in our lifetime, which is incredible for us as young transport professionals. There’s plenty of projects to work on, from rail to road and beyond that will completely transform our city and take us as young transport professionals on an interesting and exciting journey. The opportunities for young people to grow in the industry is endless! Here at the Young Transport Professionals (YTP), we’re excited for what’s coming up in the industry and what we can offer young professionals to help them on their journey.
This year we’re celebrating our fourth year of operation. From what started as a couple of young professionals wanting to connect with young people in industry to now being an incorporated organisation, we’ve come a long way since our first event back in November 2014.
Looking back on the past year, not only has the transport industry grown, but so have we – immensely! The YTP has grown to 576 members and we’ve taken on three new industry partnerships with AJM, Metro Trains Melbourne (Metro) and Downer. We’ve also put on four forums and our beloved annual lawn bowls event throughout the year with the help of our supporters from ARA, Professionals Australia, Aurecon and Advisian. What a year!
Our new Committee is filled with bright and enthusiastic young professionals from different companies and disciplines. We’ve brought in some new roles to help us with our growth, including a new Membership Engagement Coordinator and Digital Coordinator. This year our committee is represented by employees from Jacobs, Metro, Rail Projects Victoria and Advisian. You’ll see us floating around at upcoming events – feel free to tap us on the shoulder for a chat!
Our promise to our members will be to host more events than ever before, and provide more opportunities to network with other people in industry.
A big thank you to our members for your continued participation and enthusiasm throughout the year, and to our fantastic sponsors for their ongoing support. Catch you at our next event!
